The swimming pool

The swimming pool is way too big to take a picture of the whole thing. Here is a crop of the post card I bought, It shows an areal view of the pool. The wing on the right starts at 3 ft and has an even concrete bottom. Part of the round part has an even concrete bottom also and is 5ft. The rest of the pool is natural stone and ranges from 3ft to 25ft. At the end of the left wing is the high dive.


Here are a few photos that I just happen to have of the pool. I will take some better pics next time we are there.




Here are some pictures from the week they cleaned the pool. They clean the pool every May just before memorial day for the summer kickoff. These are the best pics I could get because they wouldn't let us in the fence.

The Long awaited snorkeling pics

Finally, we have pictures! But first, I have to say that film cameras are archaic and obsolete. I am so spoiled with digital that it absolutely kills me to wait on film to get developed and since we are no where near civilization, there is not even a one hour photo to depend on. I had to mail, yes, snail mail my film all the way to a film precessing company and then I had to wait, yes, wait on them to process them and if that wasn't bad enough, I had to wait, yes wait on them to mail, yes, snail mail them back to me.

But then I have to remind myself that for a mere 20 bucks I was able to get a camera that would take pictures under water. Seriously, am I going to be so petty as to complain about being on an extended vacation where life can be so relaxed and enjoyable and we get to swim A LOT and take pictures of this wonderful time and only some of the have to be sent off for developing?

Liam's firsts

Since we have been here, liam has experienced some firsts. He has started clapping. He has stood on his own, granted, not for long and purely accidental but he did just stand there without holding on to anything. He cut his first (and second) tooth.

But most importantly, he had his first watermelon.

Mom, you want me to eat what?


Well, it isn't as appealing as the bits of lint or old cheerios I find under the couch but for you, mom, I'll try it.

Scenic Davis Mountians

We went for a drive through the Davis Mountains. The view is beautiful and the magnitude and atmosphere just can not be captured with a camera even though I did my best.

Wow, that's a long way down.

Mom, we really need to talk about the risks invovled here. Are you nuts? I'm only 8 months old. What are you thinking sitting me all alone on a really high wall on a really high mountain just for a photo op?!?!

The Desert wet lands

The San solomon springs pool was created in the 30's by the CCC. Before that time the springs were literally an oasis in the dessert. There was swampy wetlands that supported local wildlife. the Indians used to use the springs for water.

After the swimming pool was created, the wetlands disappeared because the water was routed from the pool through several miles of canals and then to Lake Blamorhea.

During the 90's they went in and recreated an area of desert wetlands to sustain native wildlife including two types of endangered fish that are only found here. One of those would have been extinct had they not recreated the wetlands as the only other creek they were found in has since dried up. the wetlands are really neat to see. They have created an area for underwater view of the fish.
