Today is Alizabeth's birthday!
I officially have 3 teenagers! Where did the time go? We will be taking her out for the official 13th birthday dinner.
A non-update
Just thought I would update to let everyone know there is nothing to update. We spend our mornings doing school. Just the basics. And a little geography. We often go swimming in the evenings. Liam LOVES the water. The water maintains a constant temp after all it is a spring so it always feels cold but Liam doesn't care. he loves the cold and the water. He always goes swimming in long sleeves and a hat and lots of sunscreen to limit sun exposuer.
The older girls and I take turns with him so that everyone gets a chance to snorkel and swim.
We have some (hopfully) great underwater pictures of us snorkeling but the roll of film has been misplaced.
And the very best part of my day and the reason we are displaced from home is that I get to see my wonderful, great, loving husband everyday!! He is so sweet. He brings me roses on a regular basis from a rose bush on the ranch where he works.
I get the opprotunity to drive around and take pics of the sceenery here which is great!!! Especially at sunset.

Irrigation
Technically, we are not in the dessert. A desert is defined by having less than 10 inches of rain per year. Balmorhea has an average of 14 inches. This area is primarily irrigated by the san solomon spring with it's million gallons of water per hour. From the state park website: The 77,053 square ft San Solomon Spring is the focal point of Balmorhea State Park. From 22 to 28 million gallons of water flow through the spring-fed swimming pool each day.
When the water leaves the pool it goes out to for the wetlands (more on that later) and then travels through irrigation canals to water the local farms and then to balmorhea lake. There are canals all over balmorhea. When you think about being in a place like this with only 14 inches of rain/year, at first, it seems unappealing but consider this; This town is one of the few places on earth that is virtually unaffected by drought.

Back online and in Balmorhea
We've made it safe and sound here on the edge of the earth (or so it seems after the drive). Seriously most Texans have no concept of how big Texas is.
We started off on a Saturday morning at about 7:30 with two vehicles, 6 kids, one, nursing baby, two dogs, and way too much stuff which oddly now seems as if it were not enough. Three hours later, we had managed to make it about 30 miles. Yep, 30 miles in 3 hours. That's not bad considering the time we spent on the side of the road cleaning the dog puke out of the van and you must allow the time it took for two of the kids to stand at the side of the road to also puke as they were grossed out by the dog puke. Add in the multiple trips into wal-mart and finally getting to eat breakfast and we were on our way. It took us over 12 hours to drive the 500 miles'
