Liam turns One!!

The tradition in our family has always been that when we celebrate a first birthday, the birthday kid gets unlimited access to the cake until they have had their fill and the rest of the family can eat the remaining cake-carnage.

The cake before(Gennifer did a beautiful job making the cake):

A trip to the park

This was a few weeks ago. It was a hot day. Too hot to play on the playground so we had to compromise. I think Liam was happy with our compromise. Heather was turning the water on and off. He giggled and laughed so hard he wet his pants. Ha!

Yay!

I started antibiotics today for my nasty ear infection that just wasn't going away and I can already tell some improvement.

I promise, I will posting some Carlsbad Caverns pics very soon.

The temp today was...

....77 degrees. The west Texas desert weather is doing some crazy stuff.

On a side note, we went to Carlsbad Caverns yesterday. I will be posting pics soon. Since the weather was so nice and the a/c is still out on the van, we decided to take the opportunity to go see the caverns while it was cool.

We found out that Carlsbad New Mexico is closer to us than Midland.

Complaint department

So I have this monster of an ear infection and it is killing me. I can't find my bottle of silver and I think it must have gotten left at home.

I burned my arm last might by splashing hot grease on it. Thankfully I had some Melagel to put on it, which is the very best thing in the whole world for burns. I keep it on hand in the kitchen just for that reason. I immediately put it on and covered it which burned for a few hours but this morning when I woke up, ther is absolutely no pain, unless I touch it, and no blistering either. This stuff is amazing!!

The a/c in the van went out and David is going to have to fix it which will run us 5 or 6 hundred, yes I said hundred dollars. Yes, it is worth it to me. I'm a big baby when it comes to not having a/c. I didn't used to be that way. I have gone many summers without a/c in the car and even a few without a/c in the house in humid north Texas. I didn't die thn. But for some reason, just the thought of going with out a/c makes me think I won't live through it. I guess that is the way things go when you are old enough to be a grandma.

It has happened

I was asked today if

...
..
.

Liam
..
...
...

was
...
...
..

*sniff*

If

Liam

was

my

grand baby

!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Am I really that old?

I mean if one of the older girls were there holding him and cooing over him and all, maybe, just maybe, I could see that but nope, no one was a round, nothing to insinuate that Liam belonged to anyone else.

sigh.

I guess I am old. Does this make it official?

Sonja(5) has declared her path in life.

She is going to be a paint-ist.

EEEEKKKK!!!!!

Uninvited house guest. I am officially freaked out. We found this guy in our bedroom near the front door. In all honesty, it was only about 2 feet long and as big around as my pinky and wasn't poisonous but the fact that it was in our house where my baby walks around is really freeking me out.

ARG!

My pizza stone broke. I have had it longer than I have had Sonja and I have used it for everything. We always leave it in the oven.

Sharla was making "hobo" dinners for supper tonight. She wrapped the flash-frozen chicken with potatoes and carrots in foil and put them in the preheated oven on top of the stone. I guess the frozen chicken was too much for already heated stone and it broke.

I guess I need a new one. I don't know where in the world I would find one out here and I am sure the shipping would be outrageous.

I don't suppose anyone knows of a retail store that carries stoneware that might be in San Angelo or midland.

My daughter is growing up

She is studying to get her drives license and she now has a job and not one of those jobs where she has to work herself silly for very low pay like she has had in the past. This is good paying job with real decision-making responsibilities. She is asserting her Independence and getting paid well for it.

We can never go back.

Things will never be the same and most importantly, I know that this is just the first step. The first step to the rest of her life. Not our life but her life.

And..

yet...

Somehow...

I'm ok with that.

I don'tknow, I guess I expected to feel different somehow, maybe like I had lost something.

But I don't. I feel like I have gained something.

She has plans for her future and is taking the steps to get there. She has reached a certain level of maturity and I didn't see it coming. Does that mean I did something wrong or maybe I did something right?

The pool

Since we spend so much time at the the pool and it is our home a way from home, there will be a lot of pool posts.

This is my latest pool photo.
